Job Summary
The Cabling Technician will be responsible for the installation, execution, supervision, testing, and maintenance of Structured Cabling Systems (SCS) and ELV cabling infrastructure across Data Centers, commercial buildings, banking facilities, hospitality projects, and other mission-critical environments.
The role involves installing and terminating copper and fiber optic cabling systems, supporting ELV solutions such as CCTV, Access Control, and related infrastructure, coordinating day-to-day site activities, and ensuring work is completed in accordance with approved drawings, project specifications, quality standards, and project schedules. The ideal candidate should possess hands-on experience in structured cabling, fiber optic systems, ELV infrastructure, containment systems, testing, labeling, and site coordination.
Job Description
Structured Cabling & Fiber Optic Systems
- Install, terminate, dress, label, and test Cat6, Cat6A, and fiber optic cabling systems.
- Perform copper cable termination on patch panels, faceplates, and network equipment.
- Perform fiber optic cable routing, splicing, patching, and testing.
- Install and maintain fiber optic and copper cable infrastructure in Data Centers and commercial facilities.
- Support cable migration, relocation, and refurbishment activities.
- Perform cable tracing, fault identification, and troubleshooting activities.
- Conduct Fluke testing and fiber optic testing and prepare test reports.
ELV Systems Installation
- Execute installation and cabling work for:
- CCTV Systems o Access Control Systems
- Public Address Systems
- DCIM Monitoring Infrastructure
- Install, route, and terminate ELV system cabling.
- Verify device locations, cable routing, and connectivity as per approved drawings.
- Support testing and commissioning activities for ELV systems.
Site Execution & Supervision
- Execute site activities in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and project schedules.
- Supervise technicians and subcontractors during cabling installation works.
- Monitor daily site progress and report project status to the Project Engineer or Project Manager.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, and other trades to ensure smooth project execution.
- Conduct site surveys and identify requirements before installation.
- Ensure material availability and proper utilization at site.
- Participate in project meetings and site inspections as required.
Containment & Infrastructure Installation
- Ensure containment installations comply with project specifications and industry standards.
- Verify proper support, routing, segregation, and cable pathway requirements.
- Coordinate with other disciplines to avoid installation conflicts.
Documentation & Quality
- Maintain daily work reports and progress updates.
- Support preparation of:
- Testing Reports, Inspection Reports
- Material Requests
- Snag Lists o As-Built Documentation
- Ensure all cables, panels, racks, and devices are properly labeled.
- Verify installations meet project specifications and quality requirements.
- Assist in project handover activities and final documentation.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Follow all site safety requirements and HSE regulations.
- Ensure work is performed according to approved Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
- Maintain good housekeeping practices in working areas.
- Participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings.
Skill
- Diploma, ITI, Technical Certificate, or equivalent qualification in Electronics, Electrical, Telecommunications, Networking, or a related field.
- 2 to 6 years of experience in Structured Cabling and ELV system installation.
- Experience in Data Center, Commercial Building, Banking, Hospitality, or Critical Infrastructure projects.
- Hands-on experience with Cat6/Cat6A cabling systems.
- Hands-on experience with fiber optic cabling, patching, and testing.
- Ability to read shop drawings, cable schedules, and layout drawings.
- Familiarity with Fluke testing procedures and reporting.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office for reporting and documentation.
